Ekiti Govt Vouch on Accreditation of EKSU College of Medicine
The Deputy Governor, Dr. Kolapo Olusola gave the assurance at a meeting with the management of the University after a familiarization visit to the Institution's College of Medicine.
Dr. Olusola who said his visit was a directive from Governor Ayodele Fayose, expressed the governor's displeasure over the attitude of the previous administration to the plight and stagnation of the students of the college, because it failed to give deserved priority to the accreditation of the university's College of Medicine.
Noting that the fortune of the College of Medicine would have been different if Fayemi's government had expended just N1billion out of the N3.3billion squandered on the Ayoba Hilltop Mansion to provide facilities that would hasten the accreditation the College, the deputy governor declared that the Fayose-led administration would do everything possible to end the stagnation of students of the college at the 300 level of their study.
Dr. Olusola said that government would partner with the University to prioritize the provision of facilities that would facilitate the immediate accreditation, adding that other requirement of the college would be attended to as the finances of the state improve.
He asked the university management to consider the possibility of establishing the Faculty of Environmental Design and Management and promised to partner major stakeholders within and outside Nigeria to donate a Building Workshop for the Department of Building Technology if established in the school.
Welcoming the Deputy Governor, the Vice Chancellor of the State University, Professor Oladipo Aina, who was represented by the Deputy Vice Chancellor, Professor Victor Adeoluwa described the visit as quite remarkable and an indication of the government's determination to restore the glory of education in Ekiti State to enable it live up to its Fountain of Knowledge acronym.
He expounded on the facilities the University was able to put in place with the meager resources at its disposal and the on-going capital projects that could facilitate the accreditation of the College of Medicine by the Nigeria Universities Commission (NUC).
The Vice Chancellor, who explained that the institution has been able to put in place minimal infrastructure that would facilitate the interim accreditation of courses, disclosed that College of Medicine required a lot of fund to make it effective and appealed for special fund for the college to provide necessary facilities and meet its other numerous needs.
While taking the deputy governor round the departments in the College, the Provost of the College of Medicine, Ekiti State University, Ado-Ekiti, Professor Matthew Araoye appealed to the state government for proper funding of the college, stressing that some consumables in the laboratories of the college are getting exhausted and should be replenished to aid the learning process of the students.
Earlier, the Deputy Vice Chancellor Prof. Adeoluwa and the provost, College of Medicine Prof. Araoye conducted the Deputy Governor round the facilities put together to fast track the accreditation and the Deputy Governor lauded the University community for putting the structures on ground.
Some of the departments visited by the deputy governor included the Chemical and Pharmacology, Physiology, Anatomy, the College Laboratory, Medical Library, lecture rooms and Cadaver Laboratory, all within the college of Medicine premises.
